The new-generation Audi Q5 family SUV will launch in Australia initially in 'wagon' form with a front-wheel-drive petrol entry-level model, two diesel AWDs, and the turbo V6 petrol SQ5.
The 2026 Audi Q5 family SUV is weeks away from arriving in Australian showrooms, with pricing and specification details for the third-generation model confirmed.
Priced from $81,000 for the petrol Q5 TFSI four-cylinder turbo-petrol front-wheel-drive, it is $7400 dearer than the previous entry point to the line-up, the 35 TDI diesel.
It is more than $6000 dearer than the most-affordable 2026 Volvo XC60 Plus B5 Bright, and undercuts the BMW X3 20 by $5800 and Mercedes-Benz GLC200 by $8000 – but these models offer all-wheel drive as standard.
The new Q5 'wagon' range will launch with a single four-cylinder turbo-petrol variant, two all-wheel-drive (AWD) diesels, and the single-turbo V6 petrol SQ5.
Coupe-styled 'Sportback' versions are due by the end of the year, while all-wheel-drive petrol Q5s will not be offered in Australia at launch, and the return of 'e-hybrid' plug-in hybrid (PHEV) editions – recently unveiled in Europe – has not been confirmed.
Diesel power has been removed from the SQ5 globally.
Standard equipment in the Q5 includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen – up from 10.1 inches – an 11.9-inch instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, matrix LED headlights with digital signatures, and the S line exterior styling package.
The front-wheel-drive (FWD) Q5 TFSI features a 150kW/340Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
From $87,600, TDI quattro variants add a 150kW/400Nm four-cylinder diesel engine and standard all-wheel-drive, while the $94,100 Sport – up $5170 – gains 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and an S line interior including a flat-bottom steering wheel and black headlining.
A 48-volt mild-hybrid 'plus' system capable of driving the wheels on electric power only for short periods, unlike most other mild-hybrid vehicles, is standard across the Q5 line-up.
All Q5 variants can be optioned with the Black Exterior Package, as well as the Premium Package, with the latter adding a head-up display, a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D premium audio system, multi-colour ambient lighting, faster USB-C charge ports, and acoustic window glazing.
A Style Package is also available for the non-Sport variants, including the contents of the Black Exterior Package along with 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels and rear privacy glass.
The new-generation Q5 rides on the Volkswagen Group's new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture, and measures 35mm longer and 7mm wider than the old model, but with a similar height and wheelbase.
Audi Australia is offering the SQ5 in a limited-edition 'Edition One' variant for $106,400 before on-road costs, combining a similar equipment level to the TDI quattro Sport with the regular, better-equipped SQ5's 270kW/550Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine.
It also gains sports-tuned frequency-selective dampers, the Black Exterior Package, rear privacy glass, 20-inch black metallic Audi Sport alloy wheels, red brake calipers, stainless-steel pedals, and a flat-top and bottom steering wheel.
A 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.5 seconds is listed for the new SQ5, 0.4 seconds quicker than before.
The standard SQ5 is priced from $122,400 before on-road costs – $16,000 more than the Edition One, and $3316 more than before.
It builds on the Edition One with standard metallic paint, premium black diamond-stitched leather upholstery, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, and Dinamica microfibre trim.
It also includes Q5's Premium Package as standard, while the extra-cost Tech Pro Package for the SQ5 adds a heated steering wheel, a 10.9-inch front passenger touchscreen, a power-adjustable steering column, heated outboard rear seats, and digital OLED tail-lights.
A Carbon Style Package is also offered for the SQ5 Edition One and SQ5 grades in Australia.
The 2026 Audi Q5 is due in Australia in the coming weeks.
It joins a hive of new model activity for Audi in Australia in the last 12 months, including the A4-replacing A5 liftback 'sedan' and wagon, the Q4 e-tron and Q6 e-tron electric SUVs, and facelifts for the A3, Q7 and Q8.
