This week, Amazon in the US began selling used and certified pre-owned cars in Los Angeles.

Through the program, Amazon Autos, there are already over 130 cities (and counting) across the US with participating dealers – offering new, used, and certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles.

There is no news yet on whether this option will arrive in Australia, but Amazon told Drive it is continuing to expand in the US and is looking to expand internationally in the future.

Hyundai US, an early partner of Amazon Autos, said it believes this “collaboration has the potential to help us reach more customers and enhance our online sales process”.

“We look forward to growing with this new offering and exploring new ways to serve our customers,” Hyundai US said.

Amazon Autos, much like other online car marketplaces, partners with dealerships to post cars online.

Interested buyers can test drive the car, trade in their old car, get financing options during their purchase, and have a three-day/300 mile (482 kilometre) return policy.

Some specific dealers, including Hyundai, have three-day exchange policies instead of returns.

Unlike some other online car marketplaces, Amazon’s partnerships don’t leave room for price negotiation, which is a traditional element of the used-car buying experience.

Users can filter which make, model, and style of car they're looking for and adjust availability by proximity to their nearest pick-up dealerships.
