Expanding on its successful run on the C43 and GLC43, AMG applies the Edition R treatment to its compact models.
Mercedes-Benz Australia will add new Edition R versions of the A35 and CLA35, and Edition R+ variants of the A45 hatch and CLA45.
Largely focused on appearance upgrades, both the Edition R and Edition R+ add otherwise optional equipment to their respective models.
The A35 and CLA35 Edition R models add 19-inch AMG black alloy wheels, red brake calipers, faux leather and microfibre upholstery with red topstitching, and aluminium trip panels.
Both are also equipped with an AMG Aerodynamics package, which includes a larger front splitter, front bumper flics, and a rear diffuser blade finished in gloss black.
The A35 Edition R hatch adds a rear wing, while the A-Class sedan and CLA add a low-profile rear lip spoiler.
The mechanical package remains untouched, with the A35 and CLA35 Edition R powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 225kW and 400Nm. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive are standard.
Pricing for the A35 Edition R hatch starts from $86,200, the A35 Edition R sedan is priced from $87,200, while the CLA45 Edition R starts from $97,700, each before on-road costs.
Compared to the regular models, the A35 Edition R hatch is $3500 cheaper than a standard A35, however the A35 sedan and CLA35 have no price change.
The A45 S hatch and CLA45 S Edition R upgrades build on the equipment added to the 35 models with the addition of AMG performance seats on both the A45 and CLA45, and a high-rise rear spoiler on the CLA45.
Again, AMG has left the drivetrain untouched with 310kW and 500Nm for a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, and all-wheel drive.
The Edition R+ package brings the starting price of an A45 S hatch to $122,500 and the CLA45 to $129,300 before on-road costs.
These prices match those of the regular A45 and CLA45.
