The Geely EX2 is expected to be among Australia's cheapest electric cars when it arrives between July and September, with dedicated battery cooling – unlike the BYD Atto 1.

The 2026 Geely EX2 – the best-selling vehicle in China last year – has moved one step closer to its Australian launch, with new details confirmed.
At the 2026 Melbourne motor show, where a pre-production version of the EX2 electric hatchback was shown, Geely Australia confirmed it will arrive in local showrooms between July and September this year.
The new model is similar in size to a BYD Dolphin, MG 4 Urban and GAC Aion UT – but features a rear-wheel-drive setup instead of front-wheel-drive, and Chinese pricing suggests it could undercut its closest rivals.
Australian pricing for the Geely EX2 has yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to be more affordable than the BYD, MG and GAC electric hatchbacks, which start from around $30,000.
However, it is unclear if the EX2 will be sharp enough to beat Australia's current cheapest electric vehicle, the one-size-smaller BYD Atto 1, priced from $23,990 before on-road costs.
In China, the EX2 – sold there as the Geely Xingyuan – starts from 68,800 yuan ($AU14,299), compared with 69,800 yuan ($AU14,507) for the BYD Seagull, which is badged Atto 1 in Australia.
Geely Australia product manager Ashur Varde told local media the brand was "pleased to announce" the EX2's high-voltage battery has dedicated liquid cooling – a feature the BYD Atto 1 lacks.
"One important thing to announce… the battery is liquid-cooled," he said.
"The battery is maintained for optimal conditions, so you're getting the best efficiency out of the car, and you're not battling with the air-con to keep yourself cool."
The EX2 shares its Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) underpinnings with the Geely EX5 and Starray EM-i – however its electric motor is fixed to the rear axle, not the front, and it adds a 70-litre under-bonnet storage capacity.
Compared with other circa-$30,000 electric hatchbacks, the EX2 also features an independent multi-link rear suspension, rather than a less sophisticated torsion beam.
Geely Australia is expecting a five-star ANCAP safety rating for the EX2, Varde added.
Standard technology is expected to include a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster.
The EX2 will be offered in Australia in Moon White at no extra cost, along with extra-cost Aurora Green, Comet Grey, Nebula Beige, Jupiter Pink and Star Silver.
Between 10-30 April, 2026, a limited-time pre-order offer for the Geely EX2 includes a complimentary home wallbox charger and premium paint.
More details on the 2026 Geely EX2 – including Australian pricing and specifications – will be confirmed closer to local showroom arrivals between July and September this year.
