Kia's flagship electric car – one of the country's quickest seven-seaters – will be its new most expensive, double the price of a high-spec Sorento hybrid family SUV.

The 2026 Kia EV9 GT will be the most expensive new car ever sold by the South Korean manufacturer in Australia, when it arrives in local showrooms "imminently".
The EV9 GT is listed at $129,250 before on-road costs, more than $8000 dearer than the less powerful EV9 GT-Line that previously held the title of Kia's most expensive model.
It is more than $30,000 dearer than the least expensive EV9 variant, the standard-range, rear-wheel-drive Air, and is approximately twice the price of a hybrid Sorento Sport+ seven-seater ($64,180).
For the money, however, buyers get access to the third-quickest seven-seat SUV in Australia, capable of zero to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds from dual electric motors producing 374kW and 740Nm.
Only the $174,815 Audi SQ7 (0-100km/h in 4.1sec from 373kW/770Nm) and $307,100 Mercedes-AMG GLS63 (0-100km/h in 4.2sec from 450kW/850Nm) are currently rated to trump the EV9 GT, both with 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8s.
The EV9 GT has more power than the 283kW GT-Line – which quotes 0-100km/h in 5.0sec – as well as a longer range, at 510km compared to 505km, despite the same 99.8kWh battery.
Performance upgrades under the skin include adaptive suspension, which has been tuned for local roads by Kia Australia engineers, plus upgraded brakes with green calipers, and unique 21-inch alloy wheels with sports tyres.
The electronically-controlled limited-slip rear differential, simulated gear shifts, and synthesised driving sounds seen on overseas EV9 GTs are expected to feature on Australian cars.
The GT is the only EV9 variant sold in Australia with 'Star Map' LEDs embedded in its grille, while it gains a six-seat interior layout with reclining 'captain's chairs' in the second row.
Overseas models are fitted with front sports seats, leather-look and Alcantara combination upholstery, green contrast stitching, and a GT-specific green 12 o'clock stripe on the steering wheel.
The 2026 Kia EV9 GT is due in local showrooms imminently, with a full specification list promised to follow.
Kia has also released prices for Model Year 2026 versions of the three regular EV9 variants – Air rear-wheel drive, Earth all-wheel drive, and GT-Line all-wheel drive – which are unchanged compared to earlier builds.
