The Toyota RAV4 remained Australia's best-selling hybrid vehicle, though it didn't sell as well as the previous year.

Hybrid vehicle sales growth has slowed from the 76 per cent increase reported in 2024 compared to the previous year, with fewer than 100,000 hybrids reported as sold in 2023.

The figures do not included mild-hybrid vehicles, such as the Toyota Prado and Toyota Prado, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) including the BYD Shark 6 and BYD Sealion 6.

Down 7.2 per cent, Toyota reported 51,869 examples of its RAV4 Hybrid as sold, more than double the Australia's second-best-selling hybrid, the Corolla hatch and sedan (18,522).

Toyota models cover six of the Top 10 hybrid vehicles in Australia, led by the RAV4, Corolla and Corolla Cross (12,662), with all of its hybrid models – including the slower-selling Yaris and Tundra – resulting in 115,953 sales.

Excluding hybrid-only models, the Lexus LBX has the highest powertrain share at 90.6 per cent – the turbo-petrol Morizo RR accounting for the remaining 9.4 per cent – followed by the GWM Tank 500 (83.6 per cent), Hyundai Santa Fe (81.8 per cent) and Honda Civic (74.9 per cent).

The list of new hybrid vehicles launched in 2025 is smaller than plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, but it includes the Chery Tiggo 4, MG HS, Maserati Grecale and KGM Torres.

The number of hybrid variants in the Honda CR-V, ZR-V and Kia Sportage family SUV ranges is also due to expand this year, giving buyers more affordable options.
