The Jaecoo J5 borrows more than a few Range Rover design themes, but this new bodykit from Indonesia goes all-in on imitation.
Electric Cars
The design-led Jaecoo division of China’s Chery Motors received plenty of attention for its very Range Rover-inspired styling.
The Jaecoo J5 EV, one of Australia's cheapest small electric SUVs, does little to dispel those comparisons. However, the front of the J5 has enough detail differences that you probably wouldn't confuse it for a Range Rover that costs three or four times as much.
Until now.
The Wild Design body kit has surfaced from a number of aftermarket parts suppliers across Indonesia and Thailand, and appears designed to specifically transform the Jaecoo J5 EV into a smaller Range Rover Velar.
The main element is a new lower bumper cover that leaves the front bumper of the J5 intact, mounting via double-sided tape over the top.
The lower bumper cover hides the grid-like intake panel that comes from factory, with a restyle that includes faux outboard intakes with louvred inserts, much like what you’d find on the front of a Range Rover Sport or Range Rover Velar.
The flush-fit bumper cover contains cutouts to allow the factory-fitted parking sensors to work without the need to relocate them, and leaves other elements, like the front camera and central air intake, uncovered.
Additional styling parts, including side sills and lower door mouldings, wheel arch mouldings, and a restyled rear bumper valance with faux bash plate, are also offered.
The Range Rover doppelganger comes as one of the more convincing restyle options that has sprung up, with vendors offering less convincing bodykits that take inspiration from the Lamborghini Urus or set their own stylistic direction.
The Jaecoo J5 EV made its Australian debut in December 2025, priced from $35,990 plus on-road costs, and introduced with a $36,990 drive-away special offer for the first 2000 buyers.
Australian specifications include a 58.9-kilowatt-hour battery and a 402km driving range rating. A single 155kW/288Nm motor powers the front wheels.
In the first two months of 2026, the J5 EV has sold 584 units, giving it a 2.3 per cent market share in the Small SUV Under $45K class.
