GR Yaris Morizo RR could follow the tyre tracks of the GR Corolla Morizo Edition and Lexus LBX Morizo RR in coming Down Under.
Toyota is treating Japan and Europe to a more hardcore version of the GR Yaris known as the Morizo RR, and Australia could be in line next to receive the special-edition hot hatch.
Speaking to Drive, a Toyota Australia spokesperson did not confirm the GR Yaris Morizo RR for the local market, but left the door open if more production of the limited-run model were to become available.
"Toyota is always looking at ways to add excitement to our line-up," the spokesperson said.
"We always assess any new variants should they become available globally, but we have nothing to announce today."
Australia has had access to all Morizo versions in the past, which included the GR Corolla Morizo Edition that was limited – like the the GR Yaris Morizo RR – to just 200 units globally.
A total of 25 examples of the more hardcore GR Corolla arrived in Australia, with Toyota prioritising customers who would take the two-seat hot hatch to the racetrack.
Meanwhile, the Lexus LBX Morizo RR was launched last year with a limited, but undisclosed, production cap.
Unveiled at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, the new special-edition Yaris' 200 global units will be split evenly between Europe and Toyota's home market – at least for now.
In Japan, prospective buyers will be able to enter a lottery system accessible via the GR smartphone app to be allocated a GR Yaris Morizo RR to purchase. The standout feature for the GR Yaris Morizo RR is a new, rally-style carbon-fibre rear wing, which provides more downforce, according to Toyota.
The suspension has also been reworked for better grip "even [on] highly uneven road surfaces, like those at the Nurburgring".
To further its on-track leaning, the GR Yaris' standard Gravel driving mode is now replaced by a Morizo setting that splits torque evenly between the front and rear axle. Other exclusive changes include a carbon-fibre hood, as well as a front lip and side skirt extensions. If the rear wing was not enough of a giveaway, the GR Yaris Morizo RR is also finished in an exclusive Gravel Khaki hue, which is paired to a Piano Black grille, Matte Bronze wheels, and yellow-painted brake calipers.
Inside, the GR Yaris Morizo RR sports a smaller-diameter steering wheel, which is also suede-lined, as well as tweaked paddle shifter and driver control positioning.
Toyota has not detailed any changes to the GR Yaris 1.6-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, which currently punches out 221kW/400Nm in Australia.
However, the GR Yaris Morizo RR will only be available with an eight-speed torque converter automatic as the six-speed manual transmission will not be offered on the limited-run variant.
