The GWM Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV is the second model from the Chinese brand to have its suspension tuning and mapping influenced by local conditions.

The GWM Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV has been updated with locally tested and tuned suspension – and a revised steering calibration – with the promise of a more predictable and responsive driving experience.
GWM claims the improved steering feel allows it to better navigate urban driving, highway touring, or off-road terrain.
The Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV is the latest GWM vehicle to benefit from Australian and New Zealand-tuned ride and handling characteristics, alongside the Haval H6 and Cannon Alpha.
A new 220-volt power outlet in the boot now enables greater use of the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system already supported by the vehicle, and can be used to charge power tools, appliances, or camping equipment while on the go.
The AT-1-tuned Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV is currently available at a drive-away price of $77,990, $2000 cheaper than the usual price, due to an ongoing May offer. The updated specification applies to MY2026 cars built from March 2026 onwards.
The AT-1 philosophy has been used by GWM to gain insight into the Australian and New Zealand markets, and to improve and tune its models for the road conditions that locally-delivered cars face.
He has worked to tune the Chinese brand's models at the ex-Holden proving ground at Lang Lang, which was previously owned by Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast, and leased to many brands for testing and media launches.
GWM has confirmed it will continue local testing and tuning without access to the proving ground, which was recently sold to defence contractor DefendTex, but exactly where the Chinese brand will conduct its work is unknown.
Chinese versions of the Tank 500 were recently updated, but the revised grille, alloy wheels, dark green exterior paint and new badging are not confirmed to make their way to Australia, nor the column-mounted gear shifter, built-in refrigerator, or folding TV screen for the rear seats.
