The updated 2026 Polestar 3 has been detailed for Australia ahead of local showroom arrivals in the middle of this year.
Priced from $116,700 before on-road costs, the Polestar 3 now costs $1720 less than before, with the Plus package fitted as standard rather than as a $9000 option.
Similar to the Volvo EX90 it is based on, Polestar has switched to an 800-volt electrical architecture for the updated 3, which will skip Model Year 2026 (MY26) for Australia, jumping from MY25 to MY27.
Replacing the 400-volt system in the outgoing model, the 800-volt architecture brings support for direct-current charging at a peak rate of 350 kilowatts, up from 250 kilowatts.
Polestar claims a 10 to 80 per cent charge will now take "as little as 22 minutes", an improvement of more than 25 per cent compared with the outgoing model.
The 111kWh battery formerly fitted across the Polestar 3 range has been replaced by a 92kWh unit in the rear-wheel drive grade, and a 106kWh battery in all-wheel drive grades.
The rear electric motor is "newly developed", while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Performance grade now delivers up to 500kW, up from 380kW, with improvements to its front motor.
Improvements include an automatic disconnect function for the front electric motor, which is said to improve efficiency and range "during everyday driving", with a greater rear bias than before.
The electric-car brand has also updated the 3's anti-roll bars and refined its steering for an "even more direct and engaging driving experience".
As announced globally in February 2025, the Polestar 3 is now fitted with a more powerful Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processor, capable of completing 245 trillion operations per second, up from 30 trillion.
A complimentary hardware upgrade will be offered to existing Polestar 3 vehicles, with the brand confirming it has started contacting customers to arrange their "hardware retrofit".
Other changes for 2026 include simplified, renamed grades: 'Long range single motor' to 'Rear Motor', 'Long range dual motor' to 'Dual Motor' and 'Long range dual motor with Performance pack' to 'Performance'.
Active air suspension is now an optional accessory for the Polestar 3, rather than standard fit, while an electrochromic glass roof is available as a standalone option across the range.
There are also new exterior colour options – Storm (grey), replacing Thunder, and Krypton (green) – and updated interior finishes, including Nebula (soft green) MicroTech, and Dune nappa leather with a black decoration.
Pricing for the Dual Motor has increased by $46, while the Performance is up $3946 – but these grades have dropped $11,654 and $7754, respectively, when factoring in the previously optional Plus package.
The 2026 Polestar 3 will arrive in Australian showrooms in the middle of this year, with order books now open.
