Giti believes it can leverage its involvement with the world's fastest production car, the BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme, to build its brand.

Budding tyre brand Giti will use its claim as the world’s fastest tyre to boost its profile against established big-name players like Pirelli and Michelin.
As fitted to the BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme, which last year beat Bugatti to claim the world's fastest production car record – among other accolades – the Indonesian tyre maker will leverage this connection to highlight its technical expertise.
Speaking to Drive, Giti Tire Europe marketing director Stefan Brohs said the record-setting run, achieved on the GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro semi-slick compound, will have a trickle-down effect on the burgeoning brand.
“From our perspective, you have this one key point that is trust in the quality of the product,” Brohs said.
“This is for sure, one key element.
“And the second topic … after that, we made a small video project, and we presented this to our customers, our teams, our dealers – this is so incredible.
“This whole story has so much positive energy, which we would like to transport to everybody.”
While the standard U9 features Pirelli P Zero tyres, the Xtreme swaps the rubber out for the aforementioned Giti components which have a top-speed rating of 500km/h.
Other changes made to the U9 Xtreme include a 1200-volt architecture (up from the standard 800V) and a combined output of 2220kW from four electric motors.
The wheels have also been downsized from 21 inches to 20 for the U9 Xtreme, while each tyre measures 325mm wide.
Achieved in September 2025, the U9 Xtreme hit 496.22km/h at a test track in Germany, surpassing the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+’s 490.48km/h top speed.
The Yangwang U9 Xtreme also holds a production EV lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, lapping the famed circuit in less than seven minutes.
“At the end, 496.22km/h, this is an amazing achievement,” Brohs said.
“At that speed, he [Driver] was making 130 metres per second, so the importance of straight-line stability of the tyre was super important.
“And he had so much confidence in the tyre, which is really amazing.”
Giti says it will also take the learnings from this record-setting run, as well as its motorsport activities like running at the Nürburgring 24-Hour Race, to push development of its sportier, road-going tyres.
“The efforts what we do within the Giti brand, the technology part is a very important thing and therefore the technology is also linked to the Giti tyre motorsport,” Brohs said.
“We have this approach that [links] the racetrack to the road, and all the knowledge and experience we can generate from the races – the GitiCompete GTR1, in this case – we put into the tyre, which is the Giti Sport S2, and therefore this is the story behind ‘from the race track to the road’.”
