KGM Torres updated in Korea with engine, transmission, and physical button upgrades

KGM has facelifted the Torres SUV in South Korea, only a year and a half after arriving in Australia, with the revised model receiving a more potent engine, a new automatic transmission, and physical buttons for vital controls.

Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, power and torque have increased by 5kW/20Nm to a 125kW/300Nm output.

The KGM Torres was previously paired with a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission, which in the update has been switched to an eight-speed Aisin unit, and can be optioned with either front- or all-wheel drive.

From the inside, customers can determine the new transmission by its lever-style shifter that replaces the outgoing version's toggle-style set-up.

KGM now joins the long list of brands making the change back to physical buttons, switches, and dials for interior controls, with new tactile climate controls that replace the previously touchscreen-only operations.

The steering wheel has also been redesigned with dial controls below the spokes.

Continuing with the interior changes, the Torres is now fitted with the brand's new Athena 2.5 infotainment system, running on a 12.5-inch display that now supports wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

This is supported by twin wireless charging pads beneath the climate controls.

The South Korean website shows that the model is now available with three new terrain modes – sand, mud, and snow – which can be used to assist all-wheel-drive models to tackle a range of conditions.

On the outside, the new Torres sports a new front and rear bumper design with integrated bash plates.

KGM's newest mid-size SUV also features a suite of safety features including intelligent cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and trailer sway assist.

It has not yet been confirmed when the model will be updated for Australia, as the brand only introduced the model locally in 2024.

For reference, the existing KGM Torres line-up is available across six variants in petrol, hybrid, and all-electric powertrains priced from $38,000 drive-away.

No specific details have been revealed for the updated Torres Hybrid and Torres EV.
